This genuine pirarucu fishskin is soft with a glossy, shiny finish.

The pirarucu is one of the world’s largest freshwater fish. Native to the Amazon biome, it is traditionally fished as a food source by local communities and the skin is wasted. The legal capture of pirarucu is today restricted to specific ecological reserves and limited in order to preserve the species. By recycling the giant skins, indigenous communities in Brazil are able to receive a significant income from something that was normally discarded. Taking care of this by-product also provides job opportunities for the same communities and finances part of the biodiversity preservation.

The skins are tanned in Brazil through a low-impact tanning process and finished in Italy.

Pirarucu is protected by the Cities agreement and regulations, which means each skin can be traced back to its origin.
